Signs of a healthy newborn

 Feeding

  •  Feeds 8–12 times in 24 hours
  •  Sucks and swallows well
  •  Seems satisfied after feeding

 Diapers

  •  At least 5–6 wet diapers per day (after first few days)
  •  Regular stools (color changing from dark to yellow)

 Sleep & Activity

  •  Sleeps most of the day (about 14–17 hours)
  •  Moves arms and legs actively when awake
  •  Responds to sound or touch

Body & Appearance

  •  Skin looks pink (not pale or bluish)
  •  No severe yellowing of eyes/skin
  •  Umbilical cord area is clean and dry

Behavior

  • Cries strongly
  • Can be soothed when comforted

Call a doctor if you notice:

  •  Poor feeding or refuses to eat
  •  Fewer wet diapers than usual
  •  Fever or feels too cold
  •  Difficulty breathing
  •  Very sleepy or unusually irritable

You can quickly run through this list once or twice a day to make sure your baby is doing well.
